My creative practice focuses on eco- and social system complexity, and on questions of collective responsibility and sustainability. I engage lens-based and mixed media for my visual work, and embrace collaborative experiential research and engagement processes as part of my new paradigm research. This embodied practice (since 2014, in collaboration with Michael Asbill since 2018) includes weekly outdoor experiential explorations, a process-based format I call System Drawing, and 4-day think tanks. It incorporates strategies borrowed from native wisdom, from systemic constellation work, theater, art, and from business leadership processes. The approach involves a radical slowing down to allow conscious enmeshment with each other and across species. Intuitive co-creation brings forth authentic connection, rooted intention, and embodied knowledge, which becomes the basis of an emergent set of values, practices, and visions. I currently teach at SUNY New Paltz, in NY, where I share my passion for art and photography, and collaboratively engage students and the campus community in experiential processes around Just Transition. From 2003 – 12, I was a lecturer in Photography and Related Media at MIT in Cambridge, MA. While there, I became fascinated with causal loop diagrams developed by the MIT System Dynamics Group, which inspired the trans-disciplinary System Drawing format.

Sensación y Dibujo de Sistemas /Sensing and System Drawing

We are at an impasse. The tools, structures, systems, and collective habits that have brought us here will not take us into a thriving future. In this workshop, we will use embodied and creative collaborative research and engagement strategies, including a fluid collaborative format I call System Drawing. As we unpack, visualize, and feel the different dimensions, pressures, and blockages of where we are right now, individually and collectively, we co-create a field from which embodied knowledge of a different set of values and rooted intention can emerge. Underlying this process is the understanding that we all carry the intuitive knowledge of our embeddedness in the larger ecosystem, and of how to move toward collective wellbeing, which we can activate and through conscious practices.
